My Kids and Duroc Pigs
Why We Raise Them, Why We Love Them. And Why We Don't Sell Them
You’ve probably seen ads for Duroc pigs for sale and wondered, "what’s the big deal"? As a farmer and a mom, I can tell you: they really are something special. These slow-growing, reddish-brown pigs are calm, smart, and full of personality. Around our farm, they’ve earned a spot in the hearts of my kids, and on the menu for our customers.
But here’s the thing: we don’t sell the pigs - we sell the pork.
Our Durocs live a good life here at Creamery Creek, and once they've grown to market weight, they help feed families across the Midwest through our online farm store.
Still, if you’re looking to learn more about Durocs, whether as a fellow pig enthusiast, a curious home cook, or a parent with farm kids of your own - you’re in the right place.
Why We Chose Duroc
We’ve raised a variety of pigs over the years, but we keep coming back to Durocs for three reasons:
- Flavor – The pork is rich, juicy, and well-marbled. Our customers love it. Chefs love it. Our kids are picky, and even they love it.
- Temperament – Durocs are calmer than many other breeds. That matters when you’ve got young kids helping with chores.
- Creamery Creek Tradition – They’re a heritage breed with a long history of quality. Norbert Hansen used to raise them on this farm when he was a kid. There’s a reason they’re sought after by both breeders and butchers.
Do We Sell Duroc Pigs?
Nope. We raise them, we care for them, and we sell the pork.
You won’t find live pigs for sale here, but you will find Duroc pork in many of our most popular products, from thick-cut chops to maple sausage.
If you’re a farmer looking to get into Durocs, I recommend connecting with a reputable local breeder or attending a regional show or fair. Genetics and good husbandry matter, and there's a great community of breeders out there to learn from.
Our Kids + The Pigs
There’s something really special about watching your children work with livestock. Our Durocs are gentle enough that our youngest can help out with feeding, cleaning pens, and learning the ropes of farm life. The pigs are curious and calm, and honestly, more patient than some of our dairy cows.
Raising animals is one of the ways we pass on our values of responsibility, respect, and care. The kids see where food comes from, and our customers get to taste pork that was raised with love.
Want to Taste the Difference?
We believe in using the whole hog, and that means we offer a variety of Duroc pork cuts online, shipped directly from our farm.
If you found this post while searching for Duroc pigs for sale, stick around. We may not have live pigs to offer, but we do have something just as satisfying: high-quality, heritage pork, raised the right way.
Got questions about how we raise our pigs? Want to share your own experience with Durocs? I’d love to hear from you.
XOXO,
Louisa
